WILD EAST WILDLIFE AND ENVIRONMENT SCHEME
Eaton Rise residents, Paul and Tania Donnachie, have sent us details of a scheme called Wild East which may be of interest to residents:
"You may already have heard about wild East, an East Anglia based project to encourage 20% of land to be given over to nature to promote environmental objectives. The world can be under the cultural or even residential gardens.
I have just signed up to include our garden and want to suggest that the association consider at least making residents aware of this organisation and their valuable objectives, if not to have Eaton Rise as a whole participated and contribute towards the overall target. I think it would be an incredible achievement if the association could be the first of it's kind to participate and support this work in East Anglia.
Perhaps we could even arrange for a speaker to present on the subject (online?) to interested residents? I would be happy to make a film of the subject within our estate to that end.... Perhaps starting with my own garden! We have a section where we allow nature to do its own thing, have fairly deep and shrubby borders where birds are regularly nesting, lots of insect and butterfly friendly plants, and a pond. I leave the lawn uncut during the summer and have allowed clover to take over which provides nectar for bees. I appreciate not everyone may want to go that far,. but even a small section of garden in alignment with Wild East principles would still be valuable contribution to preserving natural habitats and our overall environment"
