We have been asked to organise a plant and produce stall at the Macmillan Coffee Morning at the United Reformed Church, Ipswich Road on Friday 25th September to help raise funds for people living with cancer.
If anyone has any plants or fruit or vegetables they can donate for this very good cause could they bring it along to the church on the day before 10am, or contact Janet by email: janetbearman2@gmail.com .

EATON RISE OPEN GARDENS - 04 JULY 2026:
There was a real carnival atmosphere on Eaton Rise on Saturday, 4 July 2026, as sixteen generous homeowners opened their gardens to the community. The weather could not have been kinder: warm but not hot, with a gentle breeze that made wandering between gardens an absolute pleasure. The church was buzzing throughout the day. The café served a steady stream of visitors, stalls displayed local crafts and produce, and talks explored how our gardens can adapt to a changing climate — a topic that sparked plenty of thoughtful conversation.
A remarkable 246 tickets were sold, raising £1500 for the local NSPCC charity. Eaton Rise is fortunate to have larger gardens than many city neighbourhoods, and each one offered something unique. Walking behind the houses felt like stepping into hidden worlds: ponds alive with wildlife, carefully tended borders, creative planting, and peaceful corners that reflected the personality of each gardener.
Visitors were respectful, curious, and full of enthusiasm. There was lively chat everywhere you turned, with people swapping ideas, tips, and admiration. The sense of shared enjoyment was unmistakable.
On Sunday, the “open gardeners” enjoyed their own relaxed tour of each other’s gardens, ending the day with wonderful food prepared by the group — and, of course, a welcome glass or two of wine. It was a warm, sociable finish to a weekend that was not only successful but hugely pleasurable for everyone involved.

AbOut eaton rise
Eaton Rise covers an area of 83 acres to the South West of Norwich and to the West of the Ipswich Road. Its 406 houses and United Reformed Church are about a mile and a half from the City Centre and only half a mile from unspoiled countryside.
The houses have been built on a plateau which rises steeply to about thirty meters above the flat marshy valley of the River Yare. This part of the valley, to the south Eaton Rise, is known as Marston Marshes and is a Local Nature Reserve.

The underlying chalk is exposed on the valley sides in the adjacent Danby Wood, the site of an old chalk pit and also a Local Nature Reserve. The chalk is covered thick layers of sand, left behind when the ice sheet melted, and some boulder clay forming an easily worked, almost stone less loamy soil.
The south and west of the estate is bounded by the eighteen hole, Eaton Golf Course, founded in 1910. The attractive main building of the City of Norwich School with its extensive playing fields lies to the west.
