COMPLETED MEETINGS IN 2023
Christmas Social 2023 - Wednesday 13th December
Many thanks to all who ventured out and made my last night amazing. I had a great evening and hope you all did as well. Thanks to the many helpers who magically made the clearing away disappear. Thank you so much for the voucher, the majority of the voucher from last year went on a beautiful piece of wrought iron garden trellising from Notcutts.
I have had a great time with the Garden Club from the beginning of 2019 when I took over organising the speakers, it enabled me to meet so many amazing residents from around the estate something I value very much indeed.
Now for the next stage. Last night I mentioned there will be pop up meetings on a very informal basis, Jenny has already volunteered to open up her garden in July, and I will do similar. Then we can take it from there and who knows where the path will lead us – couple of days away anyone? 😊
Wishing you all a great Christmas and a very Happy and Healthy New Year.
Happy Gardening

Talk by Alexandra Atherton on Roman Caister St Edmunds.
An extremely well attended talk by Alexandra, a volunteer with Roman Caistor Project which works in conjunction with the University of Nottingham. The project investigates the origins of the site in the late Iron Age and its development as a town. Pay a visit to their ' web site [email protected] – fascinating. I love this image of a fragment from the site.

Jonathan Hall - Chelsea Flower Show Garden:
Jonathan took us on a very interesting and enjoyable journey from the start to finish on the making of a garden for the Chelsea Flower Show. I guessed it wasn’t going to be easy, but the planning, stress and problem solving involved were more than expected, so too were the logistics for entrants in managing storage, delivery etc. All worth it however as the finished garden was stunning using some incredible innovative ideas to keep their sponsor, Woolworth, happy and was awarded. Silver medal at the show!

Dr Jan Sheldon, is CEO of the St Martins Housing Trust,
Many will be familiar with St Martins and the amazing work they do for the homeless people of Norwich, people who are often homeless through no fault of their own, but I wonder if you knew about the work they do through their amazing projects. One of these is the Bee project which promotes well being by connecting people with nature, and involves all aspects of bee keeping. Sadly their honey is not ready for sale yet but related Bee products may be.
St Martins has also teamed up with The Norwich Society creating a walk around the city which takes into account the city’s history and the history of Norwich’s support to people in need throughout the ages.
Your support for this talk would be greatly appreciated.

Wednesday 10th May 2023 - Kathy Gray
Kathy Gray gave an excellent talk titled ‘A Little but of Chili’ which encompassed the flora and fauna of Chili plus Robinson Crusoe Island and Easter Island. Amongst other things we learnt that as Chili is so isolated by ocean, desert and mountains approximately a very high forty five percent of their vascular plants are endemic.

A very interesting talk was given by Roger Connah, Chair of Plantation Garden Trust and Eaton Rise resident, to an amazing attendance of garden club supporters. Miraculous that this garden survived to become the beautiful tranquil space found today but not without a lot of hard work by volunteers. A visit is a must.
Wednesday 12th April 2023 - Roger Connah
Wednesday 8th March 2023 - Diane Blyth
Diane gave us a brilliant demonstration of flower arranging and magnificent displays effortlessly appeared due to her magic green fingers. Apart from the beautiful flowers I particularly liked the sustainable option to an oasis, Diane took an ordinary flower pot and with garden tape made a latticework top to support the flowers. The displays were raffled afterwards and four lucky members went home with an arrangement.
